The Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) is a highly competitive entrance test for various undergraduate engineering programs in India. It consists of two main exams:
1. JEE Main: This is the first stage and is used for admission into undergraduate programs at various institutions, including NITs (National Institutes of Technology), IIITs (Indian Institutes of Information Technology), and other centrally funded technical institutions. It’s also a preliminary test for the JEE Advanced.
2. JEE Advanced: This is the second stage and is used specifically for admission into the Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs). Only those who qualify JEE Main with a sufficient rank are eligible to take JEE Advanced.
· CONDUCTING AGENCY
1. JEE-Main is conducted by National Testing Agency (NTA).
2. JEE-Advanced is conducted for entry into 23 IITs and some other equally prestigious universities including IISc Bangalore, IIST Thiruvananthapuram, Indian Institute of Petroleum and Energy (IIPE), Indian Institute of Science Education and Research (IISERs), Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Petroleum Technology (RGIPT). This exam is conducted by any one of the IITs every year.
· JEE MAINS
Joint Entrance Examination – Main (JEE-Main), formerly All India Engineering Entrance Examination (AIEEE), is an Indian standardized computer-based test for admission to various technical undergraduate programs in engineering, architecture, and planning across colleges in India. The exam is conducted by the National Testing Agency for admission to B.Tech, B.Arch, B.Planning etc. programs in premier technical institutes such as the National Institutes of Technology (NITs), Indian Institutes of Information Technology (IIITs) and Government Funded Technical Institutes (GFTIs) which are based on the rank secured in the JEE-Main. It is usually conducted twice every year- session-1 and session-2 (commonly known as January session and April session). Since mid 2019, the JEE has been conducted fully online as a computerized test. Previously it was conducted by Central Board of Secondary Education before NTA.
1. Paper 1 for admission to BE/BTech courses. It includes questions from class 11 and 12 Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics subjects.
2. Paper 2 for admission to BArch and BPlanning courses. Paper 2 is further divided into Paper 2 A for BArch and Paper 2B for BPlanning. Paper 2A includes Mathematics, Aptitude Test, and Drawing while Paper 2B consists of Mathematics, Aptitude Test, and Planning-based questions. The exam will be conducted in a computer-based format, except for the Drawing section of Paper 2, which is pen-and-paper based.
